The ancient Hohokam were the earliest inhabitants of El Mirage AZ, migrating north out of Mexico around 300 BC. They were skilled irrigation farmers, devising an ingenious irrigation network throughout the region. In 1867, the old Hohokam canals were dug out, and once again used for farming. This effort was the beginning of El Mirage.
