Glendale Homes For Sale

Glendale began in the mid-1880s when William John Murphy dredged a 40-mile stretch of the Arizona Canal. Mr. Murphy was paid in land, not in cash, and in order to profit from his labor, he had to sell Glendale AZ real estate. Thus, Glendale was born. In order to provide access to his new community, Murphy also built an 18-mile-long diagonal road which he christened Grand Avenue.

The 1890s brought a colony of seventy River Brethren families to Murphy’s new town; the River Brethren is a breakaway group of the Mennonites. The intention was to form a temperance colony, a town where no alcoholic beverages were allowed. Settlers attracted to Glendale's ban on alcohol continued to pour in. Thankfully, today, you can enjoy a night out at Glendale’s Westgate Entertainment District, complete with microbreweries and wine bars.
